Three traveling buddies went on a spur-of-the-moment daycation in Barili, a municipality located 38 miles (61 km) southwest of Cebu City. The word barili came from a local grass growing in the locality named “balili“. During the Spanish regime, most Spaniards find it hard to say balili, therefore it was later pronounced as Barili and that’s how the place got its name. One of Barili’s primary tourist attraction is the Mantayupan Falls.
Mantayupan Falls are located at in the eastern end of Carcar – Barili road connecting the national highway and known as the highest waterfalls in Cebu. Nestled right at the foot of Barili’s rugged mountains lies the two-tiered falls. The water is utilized for hydro electric power system to the locals and nearby barangays.
