Chik Chow Food Express Buffet For Only P288

I’ve heard Chik Chow’s radio ad for some time already but I have yet to personally try it untlrecently. Finally, I got the opportunity to try their buffet which, by the way, is way affordable compared to the mainstream buffets in the metro.

My Uber driver was not familiar with the place, and so am I. We relied on our virtual map assistant, and boy was it tough. Chik Chow’s location is not that visible from the main road. But the good thing is they have a medium sized signage along the highway directing guests where to turn. I’ll make it easier for you, dear readers. Your marker will be the “mini bridge” beside San Carlos High School in Mango Ave. Across that ‘bridge’ is a small alley, that’s the road doing to Chik Chow. Do not hesitate to drive in because there is a big parking space allotted for Chik Chow customers inside.

Chik Chow offers lunch and dinner buffet for only P288.00 daily (except Mondays). They made use of the family’s ancestral house and converted it into the restaurant that it is today. The food business started practically from Chik’s (sir Bochik, owner) passion for cooking. Most of the food they serve are family recipes passed along for generations. Chik and his wife, Miss Viola, did some catering and offered short orders when they started. Eventually, the reputation blossomed and the rest is history. I immediately liked the ambiance because it’s like eating at the comforts of my home, without the box and busy restaurant feel.

The restaurant showcases Filipino food with a touch of Chinese. The selection is quite limited to a few appetizers, a handful of mains and two desserts. But they do have unlimited iced tea and lemonade.

Among the dishes that I tried, I liked the Dinuguan a lot. I felt nostalgic because it tasted like the dinuguan my lolo used to cook for us. Sweet and tangy without the smell.

Another favorite was the Tuna Panga. I grew up in Davao City and panga is always present in every family celebration. Their version is different from what I’m accustomed to. They wrap the marinated panga in a foil with minced spices inside and grilled until cooked. That may very well be the reason why the meat was really juicy and flavorful. Yum!

When I tasted Meatball ala King, I got hooked. It’s everything I like about meatballs: meaty, juicy and tasty! The white sauce is so damn good, I even poured some to my rice. It’s very creamy and rich in flavor.

(UL-clockwise) Roast Pork, Lengua Estofado, Lato Salad, Fried Bolinao

Another dish to watch out for at Chik Chow is their Lengua Estofado. I have to say it’s the best lengua I’ve every tried, hands down. The meat is tender and the sauce has the right ingredients that made the dish perfect in every angle.

Chik Chow’s buffet has a mix of Chinese and Filipino dishes. The food is good, considering the price but there’s nothing really extravagant in the spread. It is one of the less expensive buffets in Cebu that gives value to what you’re paying for. Their food brought a sense of home, most of which are the dishes I grew up on. That’s what I love most about them. No frills, just pure lutong-bahay experience on a plate.

If you want a non-expensive buffet, great-tasting food and can feed your comfort-food cravings then try Chik Chow Food Express now. They accept catering and offer short orders too. Major credit cards are also being accepted here. Overall, I have no complaints about the whole experience. For only P288 on both lunch and dinner, it should be enough reason for you to give them a try.
