The construction of the Marian Shrine was due to various donations from all across the world. It was built in 1998 by the Marian Monks of Eucharistic Adoration after a miraculous act of stopping an epidemic that centered a community in Pampanga, Philippines during that time. Until now, the construction is still on going and it is with great pride and joy to the people to have such a grand place of worship honoring the Virgin Mother.

A friendly reminder to worshipers who are planning to visit the shrine, it is best to go on weekdays or Saturdays. There is always an expected number of people coming to Simala every 13th of the month, first Fridays as well as every Sunday. Proper dress code is being observed, like no skimpy shorts, sheer clothing or revealing outfits. For those who were not able to abide by the dress code, one may use a scarf/shawl to cover up. You also need to remove your footwear before you can enter the prayer room. I recommend you bring socks for hygienic purposes, should you want to tour around the prayer room and the sanctuary full of images of the Virgin Mary.

How to get there:

From Cebu City, (1) you can take a bus ride at the South Bus Terminal going to Oslob and just inform the ticket collector to drop you off the corner of Lindongon, or simply t
ell him that you are headed to Simala Shrine. It’s a pretty popular destination, therefore you would not miss it. Once there, You can take a habal-habal (motorcycle) going to the Church proper. (2) Another option will be taking a V-Hire (Van For Hire) orGT Express shuttle at Sto. Niño in Colon St. or at Citilink Terminal near the South Bus Terminal. The shuttle will take you directly to Lindongon without you having to take a motorcycle ride anymore.20150213_0922581
